How Safe is ultrasound?
Diagnostic ultrasound has been widely used in the medical world for over forty years. Numerous studies have taken place, none of which have shown any evidence of detrimental side effects to patient health. Ultrasound is widely considered to be one of the safest investigations available.
How do I make an appointment?
You will need a request form, completed and signed by a Medical Practitioner e.g your GP, midwife, physiotherapist etc. Then simply call Onsite Ultrasound to make the appropriate appointment- or fax the form.
Does it hurt?
No. The examination may involve gentle pressure, but it is not an uncomfortable or painful procedure.
How long will it take?
An ultrasound scan usually takes between 15 and 30 minutes (depending on the examination requested). You will be informed of the length of time when booking your appointment.
Is there any preparation?
Many scans require no preparation but some will require preparation by the patient, usually involving missing a meal, or drinking water prior to the appointment. Onsite will provide simple instructions before the scan.
